People first started to live in Italy around 1200 B.C. and around 800 B.C. the Greeks set up in south Italy and Etruscans set up in central Italy. By the sixth century, the Etruscans created Etruria which is a group of states and then the Latin and Sabine people that were located south of Etruria created Rome which is a strong city-state. Rome was controlled by Etruscans for a while, until the Romans kicked them out, conquered Italy, and set out to create huge empire. For over 400 years, Italy's empire created by the Romans was great until the fourth century A.D. when it all went down hill as the empire was split in two and Germanic tribes managed to get rid of the last emperor. By the 12th century, Italy was doing better because they became successful on trade but they were still a bit all over the place. There was an uprising in the 1800s that forced forgeiners out and established the Kingdom of Italy. |
